Public library trustees play a vital role in the life of the library as they act as the governing body of the library. Trustees are charged with the responsibilities of monitoring and evaluating the overall effectiveness of the library, planning for the future of the library, setting library policies, and advocating for the library.

Following a nomination process, trustees are appointed to the local library board for four year terms by the County Judge Executive. Library board meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 3:30 pm alternating between the Pineville and Middlesboro Public Libraries.

The current library trustees are:

President: Stephen Cambron

Vice President: Amy Hoe

Secretary: Joann Philpot

Treasurer: Patricia Ward Howard

Member-at-Large: Regina Bailey Brock
